Compass Precision Acquires R&D Machine

Main Street Portfolio Company Purchases Sixth Operating Division

PITTSBURGH, PA – April 19, 2022 – Main Street Capital Holdings, LLC, a Pittsburgh-based private equity firm, is pleased to announce the acquisition of R&D Machine and Engineering, Inc., by its portfolio company, Compass Precision, LLC.  R&D Machine is a leading manufacturer of precision metal components based in Oldsmar, FL.

R&D Machine is the sixth operating company for Compass Precision.  “R&D fits in perfectly with our strategy of building a decentralized collection of high-quality precision machine shops serving growth markets,” explained Compass President and CEO, Gary Holcomb.  Operating companies are supported by Compass’s centralized platform resources which provide strategic guidance, operational expertise, sales and marketing support, as well as other administrative support services.

R&D Machine is home to state-of-the-art equipment, a highly skilled workforce, and an outstanding blue-chip customer base.  It has extensive 5-axis machining capabilities and primarily serves customers in the aerospace, defense, and space markets.  “We are excited to be joining forces with R&D Machine and we plan to continue to build off the legacy that was built by Carl and Hilary Whitley for over two decades” added Gary Holcomb.
